Children's book author Susanna Leonard Hill is sponsoring a contest for illustrators on her blog and I decided to submit an entry. Participants were asked to chose a story from a list of the winners of her recent fairy tale writing contest and create a cover illustration. I chose the story The "Princess" and the Pete by Jennifer Caritas which offers a modern twist on the The Princess and the Pea. You can find Jennifer's story here.
This was a fun project and I thank Susanna for the opportunity. I look forward to getting some feedback because I am always looking for ways to improve. You can check out all the artists' entries on Susanna's blog.
Anne, this is so beautiful. I love it!
ReplyDeleteI can't give you any kind of useful feedback because I am not an artist, but I LOVE it! :) I love the colors you chose. I love the expression on the princess's face, and the fact that all you can see of the prince are his arms sticking out - very funny! I think you did a terrific job! Thanks so much for entering, and I'm sure Jennifer will be thrilled that you chose her story :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susanna, for creating this contest and introducing me to this wonderfully supportive community.

ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely - love the colors and feel.
ReplyDeleteAnne - so adorable! Love the facial expression and the prince's arms and legs. This was the story I was going to try first because it's a favorite of mine - then I decided to be brave and I put the names in a hat and drew out 2.
ReplyDeleteThat is brave, Laura. And in the real world illustrators don't get to just chose stories we connect with. Kudos. BTW, your laughing jackrabbit and gila monster are among my favorites.
